In a heartbreaking incident, a school bus carrying children collided with a truck on a rural highway this morning, resulting in the deaths of seven individuals, including five students. The accident occurred around 8 AM, shortly after the bus departed for a day of classes.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene, where they found the bus overturned and severely damaged. Fourteen other passengers were taken to local hospitals, with several in critical condition. Eyewitnesses reported harrowing scenes as parents rushed to the site, desperately searching for their children.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the collision. Preliminary reports suggest poor visibility due to fog may have played a role. The school district has expressed profound grief, stating, “Our hearts are shattered for the families affected by this tragedy. We are providing support and counseling for all students and staff.”
Community members are gathering to hold a vigil for the victims, as the community grapples with the aftermath of this devastating event. As families await news of their loved ones, the community stands united in mourning the loss of young lives and the profound impact of this tragedy.
WHY ? Why would anyone RISK transporting children in ‘FOG ‘ in admitted poor visability !
I have no words : study from home .
Parenting is a role and making the
‘ Right decision ‘.
I was raised you NEVER take undue RISKS with valuable lives.
It deeply saddens me that basic ‘ common sense had not prevailed’ …
By those : sending their offspring
By those : organising
Etc etc.
TRUST is placed in
‘ reasonable rational and relatable decision making ‘
IF ‘ in any doubt err on the side of cautiom ‘
As sadly time and events cannot be undone.
I.am sure the school would have preferred the students LIVED to emvrace their lives and education.
The level of … one must be in school has gone to ludicrous and dangerous pressures on perskns feeling obligated to comply rather than make
‘ their own best decision for their offspring ‘.
This appears to be a situatiom where hindsight will teach that :
Parents who are in the situation having eyes on their childs plight
SHOULD be making that call….
NOT : the bus is here lets go…..
The level of torrentisl rain and less safe road comfitoons for numerous reasons encourages us:
‘ THINK and think twice for iur childrens safety and wellbeing ‘.
Tonight our hearts go out to those WHO have suffered both injury and bereavement in this.
But a review of
‘ policy to travel ‘ seems in light of the issue being if it stands
‘ poor visability’
The policies must have ‘ amendmens instructing cafeful thought abd if bus drivers are driving into situations passebgers furthef ahead being able to forewarn eg
‘ Urgent fog is very bad down here at Stop 57 or something ‘
Given what is okay at Stop 49 and getting worse by stop 52 …feedback from ahead could be critical to decisions of : Whether to continue ?
SAFEGUARDING :
Safety Plans
Safety Policies
Seem to be the focus the take home message from the horror and grief of this news
I feel it must be an untennable situation for ALL involved and related.
God give you strength to get through this.
But ny immeduate thought is SYSTEMS to prevent this happening in fog poor visability or high surface water etc..
I feel their pain and as i cannot undo what has been done.
Naturally embracing better SAFETY measures for all futire journeys seem paramount right across the country…
I am sure nobody meant this to happen but a
Clear protocol
Policy of
Preventative
Safeguarding
Seems key…
To give everyone renewed confidence in using this system as we enter the Autumn Winter months.
Are school buses futted with Winter Tyres rather than general performance from the September term to April/May ?
Sorry i have so many safety questions to pose…
My heart alaays wsnts to have oreventstive measures in place.
