During a post-practice media scrum this morning, Caufield stepped up to the podium with a grin, casually dropped the bombshell, and left the hockey world buzzing: he’s launching his own foundation focused on youth mental health awareness across Canada.
“It’s something that’s really close to my heart,” Caufield said. “Hockey has given me so much, and now I want to use this platform to give back — especially to kids who might be struggling in silence.”
The 24-year-old winger has become a fan favorite in Montreal for his clutch goals, infectious energy, and ever-present smile. But behind that smile, Caufield hinted he’s seen the silent battles many young people face, including athletes under pressure.
“Whether you’re chasing the Stanley Cup or just trying to survive high school, everyone deserves support,” he added.
Coach Martin St-Louis: “I Had No Idea”
Head coach Martin St-Louis, known for his intense focus and deep connection with his players, admitted he was taken completely off guard.
“I was shocked — in the best way,” St-Louis said, visibly moved. “I didn’t see it coming. We talk about leadership all the time, and what Cole just did… that’s leadership beyond the rink.”
Teammates also chimed in with praise, with captain Nick Suzuki calling it “the most Caufield thing ever — low-key, genuine, and powerful.”
Social Media Goes Wild
Within hours of the announcement, #CaufieldCares was trending across social media platforms, with fans, former players, and mental health organizations applauding the initiative.
Caufield said the foundation will begin rolling out partnerships with schools and youth centers starting this summer. “This is just the beginning,” he promised.
