Body is found buried in snow in hunt for two British hikers who …

A body believed to be one of two British hikers who went missing in the Italian Dolomites has been found buried under snow. Aziz Zirat, 36, and Samuel Harris, 35, from London, were on a hut-to-hut journey through the snowy Dolomite mountains when they lost contact on January 1.

Discovery and Investigation

Rescuers discovered a body at the foot of a rock face on the Caré Alto mountain near Trento, which they believe to be Harris’. A pair of glasses found nearby are thought to belong to Zirat. The Alpine Rescue, Guardia di Finanza Rescue, and local fire service have been scouring the dense backcountry areas where the pair last received phone signals.

Challenging Search Efforts

Search efforts were temporarily halted due to heavy snowfall and dangerous conditions but will resume with helicopter support when conditions improve. The Dolomites are known for their stunning mountain trails, but the terrain can be unforgiving, especially in winter.

Tribute to the Hikers

The incident highlights the importance of preparation and safety measures when hiking in challenging environments. Thoughts are with the families and friends of Aziz Zirat and Samuel Harris during this difficult time ¹.
