Paul Goldschmidt, a former St. Louis Cardinals first baseman and current New York Yankees star, recently opened up about a disappointing aspect of his time in St. Louis. While Goldschmidt enjoyed success with the Cardinals, including winning the 2022 National League MVP, he admitted that certain aspects of the organization left him unfulfilled.
In a candid interview, Goldschmidt expressed his frustration over the team’s inability to consistently compete for a World Series title during his tenure. When I joined the Cardinals, I believed we had the pieces to be a perennial championship contender, he said. But we never quite got there. Despite several postseason appearances, the Cardinals struggled to advance deep into the playoffs, which left Goldschmidt yearning for more success.
One of his biggest disappointments was the team’s roster management and inability to make significant upgrades. He felt the front office sometimes prioritized long-term sustainability over immediate contention. The fan base and tradition in St. Louis are incredible, but at times, I felt like we were just a couple of moves away from being a true powerhouse, he added.
Goldschmidt’s departure marked the end of an era in St. Louis, and his recent move to the Yankees has reignited his championship aspirations. Now, he joins a powerhouse lineup in New York, where he hopes to finally win the elusive World Series ring that evaded him in St. Louis.
As for Rockies fans, rumors have circulated about their interest in Goldschmidt before his move to the Yankees. While he never donned a Colorado uniform, his connection to the NL West remains strong from his days with the Diamondbacks. However, for now, Goldschmidt’s focus is on bringing a title to the Bronx.
